Module 4 Assignment Chapter 7

Q Assignment Instructions Instructions Submission of your graded assignment is due by 11:59 p.m. Central time on Sunday. Assignments should be created and submitted as an attachment in one of the following forms: (MS Word or PDF) as AssignmentTitle_LastnameFirstInitial.docx or .pdf. View the general instructions below for assignment requirements, formatting expectations, and grading rubric applied to all CM Assignments. This information can also be found in the General Instructions for Classroom Management Assignments Specific Instructions for Module 4 CM Assignment, which is based on Chapters 7 & Students w/Special Needs Chapter 7: Knowing Your Diverse Students After reading Chapter 7, use what you have learned from the chapter to answer the prompt questions below. Chapter 7 Details: The diversity found among and within students entails much more than culture or ethnicity. In chapter 7, the first section (pp. 115-127) discusses many different sources of student diversity (i.e., developmental, cognitive, affective, physical, learning styles, creative potential, gender, sexual orientation, language, cultural, exceptionalities, at-risk, socioeconomic status, and students who are troubled). 1. Briefly describe each of the sources of student diversity. 2. Given the grade level you plan to teach, identify at least 10 student diversities you expect to see in your classroom and shortly explain why you expect to see them. 3. Describe a Get-to-Know-You activity from the internet that you could use on the first day of school to help you learn more about your new students and their various diversities. 4. Being intentional about creating a positive, culturally inclusive classroom is absolutely necessary for success. Using the “Creating a Responsive Classroom" section (pp. 127-130), select and write about at least 6 of the 13 strategies provided. Name each strategy and shortly reflect on how using each strategy helps make your classroom more inclusive. Also note whether you see different strategies working together for a better effect with your students. Chapter: on Students with Special Needs (provided in Module 4 Resources; reference for this chapter is in the syllabus) After reading the Chapter on Students with Special Needs (pdf on Bb), use what you have learned from the chapter to answer the prompt questions below. Chapter on Students with Special Needs Details: You will have students with special needs in your classroom, and just like diversities, those needs will take many more forms than we usually think. This Chapter discusses three types of students with needs: students with disabilities, students with limited English proficiency, and students who are troubled. Please realize that there will be times when you have students who have multiple needs at the same time. Also realize that many of the accommodations listed in the chapter are useful to ALL students in a classroom, so you do not necessarily need to limit your accommodations to just your students with special needs (e.g., being organized is helpful to everyone, not just students with ADHD or who are emotionally disabled). By making certain accommodations class-wide, it actually helps because then your students with special needs will not stand out due to the accommodation and they will feel like they are just “one of the gang”. With these things in mind, respond to the following prompts. 1. Create a 3x14 table that summarizes this chapter. Trust me, you will want this in a graphic form for later. 2. Column 1: Name of the special need category (i.e., use all 13 of the following: Learning Disabilities, Emotional/Behavioral Problems, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, Speech/ Language Disorders, Hearing Impairments, Visual Impairments, Physical/Health Impairments, Limited English Proficiency, Substance Abuse, Abused/Neglected, Prone to Violence/Vandalism/Bullying, Living in Poverty, and Serious Challenges 3. Column 2: Write a short description of the category that includes all its variations. 4. Column 3: Identify 3-5 of the accommodations given for each special need that you could use to help students with these special needs in your classroom. ________________________________________ Reminder every CM Assignment needs to have an introduction, body (response to question prompts for both chapters), conclusion (summary of both chapters if two chapters are assigned), and reference page (adhere to APA 7th Style). Do not use direct quotes, paraphrase only! Estimated time for completion: 10 hours for reading and writing reflection

Student diversity is considered to be a common phenomenon, particularly within a large ser of classroom. Furthermore, it has also been noted that with worldwide globalization, when the entire world has shrunk into a small village, the classrooms are also reflecting the same kind of truth. The modern classroom consists students from different communities, races and different cultural background (Burden, 2020). Thus, most of the classrooms now are turning into multi-cultural classroom. Therefore, the teachers too need to remain well-aware about these cultural differences while guiding the students.
